MEET YOUR INDIANAPOLIS DENTIST, MATT KAVANAUGH DDS
Dr. Matt Kavanaugh grew up in Ligonier, IN, a small town about halfway between Ft. Wayne and South Bend. He attended West Noble High School and then Indiana University for his undergraduate education, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. He graduated from Indiana University School of Dentistry in Indianapolis in 2005. After dental school, Dr. Kavanaugh practiced in Ft. Wayne for two years at Three Rivers Family Dentistry. He wanted to practice in Indianapolis, so in early 2008 he moved back to the city. While Dr. Kavanaugh was searching for a practice, he worked for Immediadent in Avon. In July of 2008, he purchased the practice of Dr. Carter, which became Kavanaugh Dentistry. Dr Kavanugh also teaches at Fortis College’s dental assisting school, staffing the radiology clinic. He helps evaluate the students’ x-rays and teaches them how to assist with comprehensive exams. On Mondays, Dr. Kavanaugh works in Ligonier for Dr. Richard Brown, his childhood dentist. Dr. Kavanaugh is passionate about dentistry and practices with a laid back but professional style. He believes in a conservative philosophy with an emphasis on preventive dentistry and predictable treatment outcomes.
Sam Fernung, Dental Hygienist
Sam Fernung is an Indiana native who grew up in the Marion area. With a great sense of home-state pride, she decided to pursue her dental education right here in Indiana. After finishing pre-requisites at Indiana University -Bloomington (IUB), she later went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW). With a great deal of passion for dentistry and the need to help improve smiles across the state, Fernung continues to work hard on her education and gain hands-on experience in this interesting and vital medical field. Relying on her first-hand experience and plenty of continued education, she is able to provide each patient with comfortable and thorough dental care services. She understands that listening and working together with her dental team is the best way to make each dental visit better than the last for her patients. Her focus is to provide each patient with a comprehensive and advanced approach to dental health that is sometimes ignored in today's fast-paced world. When she isn't assisting patients or working on continuing her education in the field, she enjoys running, reading and spending time with her friends and family.
Meredith graduated from the Indiana University School of Dentistry assisting program in 2005 with additional certification in expanded functions. She has her radiology license and is CPR and First Aid certified. Meredith has completed many hours of continuing education learning the best techniques for all patient care. She has taken several courses in restorative treatment that allow her to place beautiful and long lasting white fillings. Meredith worked with Dr. Kavanaugh in Ft. Wayne and has worked with him for the majority of her dental career. Meredith is very caring, knowledgeable, and skilled and is a vital part of Dr. Kavanaugh’s team. In addition to working with Dr. Kavanaugh, she is also a dental assisting instructor.
Lisa has worked in various aspects of dentistry for over 20 years. This combined clinical and administrative experience allows her to have a compressive approach to our patients’ treatment. It’s Lisa’s goal to make patients feel at ease and to fit their dental treatment into their lives and budgets. Outside the office Lisa is passionate about macro photography, oenology and sailing.
